Setting

The Master programme Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship has a double objective:

  • to supply you with state-of-the-art methodology to generate breakthrough new product ideas and knowledge for managing the product development process;
  • to familiarise you with best practices to successfully valorise innovative product ideas in sustainable growth. The programme will enhance your abilities in both creating and processing added value through new products.

The programme consists of 4 modules:

  • Module 1: the strategy of product innovation
    What is a proper organisation / environment for an innovative setting?
    What is an integrated approach and what is its use?
    What are the dynamics of added value?

  • Module 2: management of product development
    How to control something that is inherently a learning process?
    How to generate breakthrough products that will be rewarded by customers?
    What about a quality system in a creative environment?

  • Module 3: management of product valorisation
    How to develop business with new products?
    What sources of funding will contribute to success?

  • Module 4: cases & consulting project
    Exercises in new product ideation, traded off for added value;
    set-up of relevant business model & plan;
    selection & valorisation plan.

Why choose this programme ?
Target group
These classes are intended for all students with a Master's degree in Engineering, Product Development or Applied Economics / Business, with a special interest in the power of product innovation and entrepreneurship. Participants with a managerial background who are not familiar with the sector will be introduced to the specific needs and knowledge of new product development. Participants with an engineering or product design background will learn to tackle the specific management needs necessary to implement new product development successfully.

Graduates from the programme Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship will have a sound basis in the theory and concepts of all major functional areas in management and its strategic implementation. More specifically they will also acquire thorough knowledge of the whole management of the product development process, and the valorisation of new products. Additionally they will have been trained in a variety of communication skills and business attitudes, e.g. multicultural communication, entrepreneurship, negotiations, self and group assessments, creativity, perseverance, teamwork and leadership.

Learning outcomes

The Master of Management - Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship programme is designed for students who wish to enhance their hands-on management skills and competencies in an open and international environment.

The programme focuses on:

  • the deepening of the participants’ knowledge of management functions;
  • the integration of the knowledge and skills required to perform in key managerial responsibilities: leadership, people management and long-term planning;
  • the strengthening of business skills, e.g. entrepreneurship, perseverance, motivation, emotional intelligence and initiative;
  • the development of social skills, problem solving skills, communication skills and the capacity for teamwork and leadership;
  • the examination of global issues from a European perspective, highlighting technological opportunities for innovation, change and progress.

Perspectifs

Graduates from the programme Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship are recruited by a great variety of international companies. They broaden their scope of employment opportunities both in terms of functionality and of sector, and increase their chances of worldwide career progress and employability.

Many companies are actively looking for managers who are able to monitor, evaluate and manage their processes of product innovation and development, ranging from the creation of new ideas to the successful commercial launch of new products.

Teaching method
All Antwerp Management School graduate Master programmes are taught in an interactive, practical way. Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions, analyse business cases, prepare business presentations, report by means of group papers and engage in computer-assisted exercises. All courses will focus on the practical application of concepts in real business life.

Terms of admission

Admission requirements
Candidates should

  • hold an undergraduate university degree at Master's level; a Bachelor degree is only sufficient if it is obtained after 4 years of full-time study at university level
  • be fluent in written and spoken English; a recent TOEFL or IELTS score should be submitted, except for native English speakers or applicants who have completed their undergraduate studies in a native English-speaking country. Applicants who participate in one of the Antwerp Management School interview sessions worldwide are also exempt from submitting these scores.

Students should send in their applications before 1 July (international students) or 1 September (EU-citizens) 2010.

Besides completing this form, candidates should additionally send us (electronically or by mail) a transcript/academic record of their studies, a CV/resumé, a copy of their passport (and photograph) and an essay. Selection

After submitting a complete application file, candidates will be invited to participate in a selection procedure. There are two ways to complete the selection process : through a distance procedure or an on-campus selection.

The on-campus selection will take place on 6 July or 27 August 2010. It will consist of  an online cognitive test and a selection interview. Candidates who are not available on these days can contact us for an individual selection date and time.

Candidates who participate in the selection process through the distance procedure, also take an online cognitive test. Additionally an interview will be organized through Skype or by telephone. These candidates are also required to submit a test score for the IELTS or TOEFL test.



Lecturer
Some teachers in this programme also teach at the Business School of the University of Antwerp, but most teachers have wide experience in business life. Other guest lecturers from the business world and other international universities are invited on a regular basis to teach in the programme.


Certificate
“Master of Management - Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship” is an official Master degree issued by the Antwerp Management School and is recognised by the Ministry of Education of the Flemish Community. All Master degrees of Antwerp Management School are accredited by AACSB.

This covers all tuition and registration fees, but does not include the cost of books, syllabi, etc.

Antwerp Management School does not offer scholarships (for information on scholarships granted by the Belgian government or private institutions, please contact the Belgian Embassy in your country).

News

The programme Master of Management - Product Innovation & Entrepreneurship will be presented at the Full-Time Masters Open Days at Antwerp Management School.

These will take place on Saturday 26 June and on Saturday 21 August 2010, from 11am to 2pm (PIE presentations at 11.30am).
