Ludo Cuyvers is since 2011 emeritus professor of the University of Antwerp, where he is still Director of the Center for ASEAN Studies. He is also professor extraordinary at North-West University, South Africa, and visiting professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration of the National Institute of Development Administration, Thailand. Ludo Cuyvers is since 1999 President of the European Institute for Asian Studies, a think tank in Brussels, and member of the Board of Directors of Flanders Investment and Trade, the Flemish export promotion agency (since 1991). He received a Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Antwerp in 1977.
For three decades he has been doing research on economic development in East and South East Asia. He published widely in international peer reviewed journals such as Economica, European Economic Review, Science & Society, Economic Journal, Journal of Post-Keynesian Economics, Long Range Planning, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Euro-Asian Management, Asian Economic Journal, International Marketing Review, International Business Review, Journal of Asian Economics, International Journal of Manpower, and other. He authored or co-authored many textbooks on international economics and edited three books with international publishers.
He was consultant for the Belgian government, the Flemish government, the European Commission, the International Labour Organization and the Department of Trade and Industry (South Africa). Professor Cuyvers was also promoter and director of international development co-operation projects in Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
