After 17 years of experience in the financial sector Jos Thys is specialized in the counseling of family-owned companies. In particular the handover towards next generations, strategic planning of the patrimony and the different aspects of Corporate Governance are important here. Recently added at his tasks is academic research and teaching.
He coordinates the Succesful Handover project executed by Antwerp Management School instructed by Agentschap Ondernemen and the VIA projects. This research into Family-owned companies tries to show the best practices, which are important for the handover towards next generations and the continuity of the company. How can family-owned companies learn from each other and gain experience to follow this course at a good time and in a good manner. This research meant the start of the Competence Center involved with family-owned companies. Together with Prof. dr. Eddy Laveren (University of Antwerp) and governmental and private partners we define this Center. This Center is also a partner of the international STEP network in which research into Family-owned companies is exchanged between various international Universities lead by the Babson College in Boston.
Next to these academic activities in Antwerp Management School,Jos Thys also teaches Business Ethics at the Flanders Business School and asset and succession planning at Syntra.
In his self-employed activities he guides Family-owned Companies in the exchange towards the next generation and is independent manager of, amongst others, the stock market listed VGP, for which he is also the chairman of the audit committee.
He is also chairman of the Team for a Good Management of UNIZO, which works on the results and further implementation of the Code Buysse.
