The management school “adopts” two young artists: Sofie Claes, Fashion Designer & Founder of Wolf Design and Frederik De Wilde, Artist, Researcher & Founder Black[out].
Antwerp, March 8 2012 - Antwerp Management School, with recognition in the international press for its research and publications on the creative industries and further developing the Competence Center on the Creative Industry , announces its new initiative to adopt two young Belgians from the creative sector with the initiative “ Artists in Residence”.
The initiative is part of Antwerp Management School’s commitment to supporting the creative industries in Belgium. With this ‘Artist in Residence’ concept, Antwerp Management School wants to support the commercial success of talented individuals from the creative sector by providing business coaching and mentoring from the School’s faculty and participants of the school’s programs.
“Antwerp Management School is building a global reputation for its research on the creative industries, and on what established businesses can learn from creative people. So this is a natural progression to bring our Faculty and participants to the programs even closer to creative talents” says Philippe Naert, Dean of Antwerp Management School.
“Belgium has a wealth of creative people, and thriving fashion and art sectors. But our research has revealed that many young creative people have not been provided with the business acumen to successfully launch and manage a business. Equally, many established businesses can learn from the way in which creative talents approach the whole process of innovation,” adds Jamie Anderson, Adjunct Professor of Strategy & Innovation Management, Antwerp Management School.
The initiative will be two-way with the artist in residence sharing their approach to creativity and innovation with the School’s Faculty and participants. The Antwerp Management School ‘Artists in Residence’ for 2012-2013 will be Sofie Claes and Frederik De Wilde. Both creative talents are participating in the School’s Executive MBA Program, with participants undertaking strategy projects to support the young artists’ commercial success. Also in other programs such as “ Building Innovative organizations” and “ Next Generation Leadership” the School’s Faculty have embedded workshops with “ The Artists” were creativity of leaders is challenged, and entrepreneurship of the creatives is cultivated.
“I am very excited to have this opportunity to connect with the faculty and students at Antwerp Management School. Fashion design is my passion, but I also recognize that I have a lot to learn about becoming not just a successful designer, but also a successful business person.” Sofie Claes, Fashion Designer & Founder Wolf Design.
“Balancing the creative and commercial elements of your career is always a challenge, and it has been very exciting to work with the faculty and students at AMS. I have also been impressed by the openness of the students to engage with my own creative approach, and hopefully this can also help them to be more successful in their own work places.” Frederik De Wilde, Artist & Founder Black[out].
