Breda and Antwerp jointly focus on sustainability education

How can we restructure or reorganize education to ensure that management education and business can co-create the sustainable business models that we need? These represent some of the questions and challenges that professor Frans Melissen and professor Lars Moratis will focus on as new Chairs on Management Education for Sustainability.

In January 2020, Breda University of Applied Sciences and Antwerp Management School have jointly launched a Chair on Management Education for Sustainability. Frans Melissen and Lars Moratis have been appointed as Professor and Chair and will devote themselves to developing new insights, methods and best practices, related to content and didactics, to ensure that management education makes a significant contribution to a sustainable transformation of society.

Management education can play a key role in ensuring that current and future leaders in business and wider society have enough sustainability intelligence; the type of intelligence that allows them to take the lead in a transition towards more sustainable production and consumption, as well as more sustainable ways of organizing ourselves. However, for management education to serve as a catalyst for sustainable development, we need to critically assess and evaluate the way we prepare our current and future leaders for this role and we might very well have to develop new contents for and didactical approaches to management education and leadership development.

This chair will reinforce the ambitions and goals of the Antwerp Partnership for Sustainability (APS) to which it is linked. The APS is an initiative of the University of Antwerp and Antwerp Management School with the Province of Antwerp, BASF Antwerp and Port of Antwerp as its founding partners.
