Marc Deloof is hoogleraar bedrijfsfinanciëring aan de Universiteit Antwerpen en Antwerp Management School. Hij behaalde in 1996 een doctoraat aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel en was van 1997 tot 2000 postdoctoraal onderzoeker van het Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) Vlaanderen. Hij was als deeltijds professor verbonden aan de Université catholique de Louvain, de Vlerick Business School, de Universiteit Gent en de Universiteit Hasselt en was gastprofessor aan University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, de Hull University Business School en de Universiteit van Calabria.
Hij doet onderzoek naar de financiering en corporate governance van kleinere ondernemingen, ondernemingsgroepen en multinationals. Verschillende studenten behaalden onder zijn leiding een doctoraat en hij publiceerde talloze artikelen in internationale wetenschappelijke tijdschriften, o.m. in de domeinen van financiering & accounting (Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Management, European Financial Management, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance, International Journal of Accounting), small business (Small Business Economics, Journal of Small Business Management, Family Business Review), economische geschiedenis (Explorations in Economic History, Cliometrica, Business History, Financial History Review), management (Corporate Governance – An International Review, Managerial and Decision Economics) en economie (Applied Economics).
