The Next Question: Supply Chains and CSR in a COVID World

30 03 21

The Topic

Over the past 30 years, the importance of corporate social responsibility and sustainability in business and supply chain management has grown considerably. Nearly all major international corporations have adopted some elements of „triple bottom line“ (profit, people, planet) thinking and reporting. In 2019 the EU even launched the „New Green Deal“, a massive investment bill aimed at placing the EU at the forefront of environmentally-friendly technologies and turning Europe into the first climate-neutral continent.

At the same time, it has been noted that CSR, especially in supply chain management, is a mark of profitable companies and affluent societies that benefit from stable and predictable markets.

However, in times of crises, questions by investors about CSR are hastily replaced by questions about margins and commercial survival.

So, should companies and societies in times of despair, simply park the whole CSR topic and focus on “more important matters”? How are companies treating supply chain management and CSR during the pandemic? How will transportation companies treat environmental issues after COVID-19? Will we simply go back to 2019 and look at pollution the way we did then? Can we already see new trends? Or, what if different COVID strains become an every-day reality?

Join us for a conversation with top industry experts about their take on what’s to come.
