Patrick Verhoeven is part-time assistant professor at the Centre for Maritime and Air Transport Management (C-MAT), where he is co-responsible for the coordination of the Port Economics & Business course. He obtained his PhD in Applied Economics in September 2015 with a doctoral thesis on Economic Assessment of Management Reform in European Seaports. His present research activities mainly focus on port management and port policy. Next to his academic work, he is managing director of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), the global umbrella organization of port authorities. Previously, he held similar posts at the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO) and the Federation of European Private Port Operators (FEPORT). He started his career in shipping in 1991 at the Antwerp ship agent Grisar & Velge.
