Prof. dr. Sophie Hoozée is Associate Professor of Management Accounting and Control at Ghent University and Visiting Professor at Antwerp Management School and the University of Antwerp. As a business economist, she specializes in the design of costing and management control systems, with deep expertise in time-driven activity-based costing. Sophie teaches BSc, MSc and executive courses in cost accounting, management accounting, and management control.
Her research emphasizes socially impactful applications of management accounting, such as in health care and recycling. She thrives in interdisciplinary collaborations that amplify the societal relevance of her work.
Sophie’s scholarly output appears in many prestigious journals, including Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Management Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Radiotherapy & Oncology and Waste Management, among others. She also holds influential editorial roles and contributes extensively to professional and governance boards: she sits on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and Social & Environmental Accountability Journal, and is an independent non-executive board member and audit committee chair at Europabank. She is further involved in the IBR-IRE (the national institute of external auditors), where she is a board member of the ICCI foundation, acts as a jury chair of the proficiency exams and as a jury member on the judging panel for the Belgian Awards for Sustainability reports.
