Dr. Thomas Van Asch obtained his PhD in Applied Economic Sciences at the University of Antwerp in 2020, after a Master in Applied Economics and a Master in Air Transport Management. His PhD dissertation focused on air cargo competitiveness and the strategic positioning of European airports.

He is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Transport and Regional Economics at the University of Antwerp and teaches courses as a lecturer at both Antwerp Management School and AP Hogeschool Antwerpen. At Antwerp Management School, he contributes to the Master’s programs in Maritime Transport Management and Air Transport Management.

Next to his academic activities, Thomas works as a Corporate Development Manager for Brussels Airlines (Lufthansa Group). In this role, he actively contributes to various strategic initiatives supporting the long-term corporate strategy, manages cross-functional projects aimed at driving growth, and supports efforts to improve the airline’s operational efficiency, among other responsibilities.
