Research


Prof. Dr. Wouter Van Bockhaven leads the AMS competence center ‘Smart Ecosystems & Networks’. His research focuses on institutional entrepreneurship for market creation and ecosystem transformation. He is the author of internationally published research on innovation ecosystems, performance measurement systems, institutional entrepreneurship in B2B markets, stakeholder mobilization, and the networking and decision-making strategies of entrepreneurs.

His research is based on case studies in Dutch and Belgian B2B sectors (including the port, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, steel processing, and installation industries) and surveys of entrepreneurs and employees in Flanders.

Wouter has an extensive track record as a project and work package leader for basic and applied research projects, including Horizon Europe, SBO, Interreg, Erasmus+, VLAIO studies, and ESF, as well as industry-specific projects on strategic innovation, strategy development, and platform or ecosystem strategy in various sectors.

His teaching experience spans innovation, strategy, and research methodology in Master's and doctoral programs at Antwerp Management School, the Royal Military Academy, and Marquette University.

His most recent research focuses on ecosystem strategies for societal transitions, such as climate resilience, the circular economy, the digital transition of ports, and the energy transition in Flanders. Additionally, he has a passion for tool development for sustainable career management as the founder of TalentLogiQs, a University of Antwerp spin-off specializing in tools for talent management and development.
