New dean for Antwerp Management School

Starting October 1, 2018, Prof. Dr. Steven De Haes (40) will be the new dean of Antwerp Management School (AMS). With the continued growth and internationalization, as well as the celebration of the school’s 60-year anniversary in 2019, he is looking at a challenging term of office.

Steven De Haes graduated as commercial engineer business informatics at the University of Antwerp and in 2007 he obtained his PhD. In 2001 he started as professor Information Systems Management at AMS and also joined the Faculty of Applied Economic Sciences at the University of Antwerp. Today Steven is a professor and he conducts applied research in the domain of digital strategy and business technology management.

Prof. Dr. Steven De Haes about his appointment: “It is an honor to take over this position after the strong growth and internationalization AMS achieved under my predecessors, deans Philippe Naert and Paul Matthyssens. Today our management school is looking at exciting challenges that I am ready to take on with enthusiasm, together with a strong team. We will continue to focus on the internationalization of the school, and closer collaboration with the University of Antwerp and the Antwerp ecosystem with its unique strengths as a world port city and an entrepreneurial and creative region. We definitely want to continue to profile AMS as the best partner for complex strategic, transformation and organizational issues. I am particularly looking forward to the official opening of our prestigious new location, ‘De Boogkeers’, on Mechelseplein in Antwerp early 2019 and to the celebration of the school’s 60th anniversary. This is the ideal moment to bring together our alumni and stakeholders and grow an even stronger AMS community together with Mimi Lamote, the new AMS alumni chairperson.”

One of AMS’ most important characteristics is the nexus between education, research and entrepreneurship. In addition to his position as dean, Steven will continue to coach organizations in their digital strategies and business technology management. He also continues to be actively involved in the development of COBIT, an international standard for business technology management in companies.

Alain Beyens, chairperson of AMS: “On behalf of the entire Board I can say that Steven De Haes has firmly established himself within AMS. As a former director of research and education and as the current vice-dean he comes with the right background. This young business and digital expert has an approach that is closely connected to the current and future challenges in management education. He will bring enormous drive to the school, which will allow us to assist the business world and society even better with the complex issues they are increasingly facing in this rapidly changing world. We are looking forward to 4 years of intense and promising collaboration.”
