Curriculum & faculty

The Master Class Organizational (re)design consists of 2 modules. In module 1, you will learn to analyze and improve organizational structures. In module 2, you get to design and implement complex organizational structures. You can choose whether to follow only the first module, or both.

If you follow both, then you will work in groups on a case of your own. Thus, we challenge you to share practical knowledge and experience and continuously test them against the theoretical insights we provide.

Would you like to deep dive into your interests and / or cases within the broad and complex domain of organizational design? You can do so via an individual in-depth track, in which you will receive one-on-one coaching.

Module 1: Analyzing and improving organizational structures

This module focuses on organizational design. You will learn to analyze the impact of concrete structural choices on behavior, well-being and business performance. And most of all, you will learn to discuss these at management and work floor level. We will provide you with relevant reasons, opportunities and pitfalls to avoid when redesigning an organizational structure.

You will also zoom in on the building blocks you need to put redesign into practice: vision, structure, leadership, teams and systems get a broader meaning and clearer coherence. Using practical examples, you will discover how to implement a design algorithm. In addition, you will discover the relationship between organizational configurations and workability, as a better organizational design leads to more engagement, less frustration and energy loss, and a stronger focus on strategic objectives.

After this module, you will be able to:

  • analyze organizational structures;
  • recognize and define your organization’s structural challenges;
  • create more awareness about structural issues and make them discussable within the organization;
  • distinguish the effect of structural aspects;
  • solve simple structural problems.

Module 2: Designing and implementing complex organizational structures

In this module you will get an even firmer grip on the various building blocks through working with real-life design and change cases. Starting from a concrete problem of a company / organization or network, you will simulate the entire case phase by phase.

You will learn about the dark side of organizational structure and change and how to avoid it. You will make a critical reflection and consider resistance, gaps and potential unintended or unexpected side effects of redesign, while looking for practical solutions and remedies in a co-creative way.

The last day is dedicated to discussing the various real-life cases on which participants worked throughout the module.

After this module, you will be able to:

  • develop cases and tools and roll out complex organizational structures;
  • design 4 to 5 structures for an organization. You will be able to list the strategic pros and cons for each of these models and draw up a transition plan that takes into account all necessary conditions for implementation;
  • draw different options of organizational models, which is necessary to make your strategy future proof.

Individual in-depth track

If you want, you can supplement the Master Class with an individual in-depth track, allowing you to gain additional insights and work independently on one or more aspects of Innovative Labor Organization.

This individual track includes 3 coaching sessions of 2 hours, according to the SWA format: mirror, working points and action plan. The first session will help you define the issue (mirror), in session 2, you will map the working points and concepts to solve the issue, and session 3 focuses on drawing up an action plan to develop the best approach to handle the case or topic.
