Curriculum & faculty

The Master Class Organizational (re)design consists of two modules: an introduction (4 days) and a deep dive module (6 days). You can either follow the full program or the introduction module.

During the deep dive you will work in groups on your own case. We challenge you to share practical knowledge and experience and to constantly check against the theoretical insights presented.

Part I: Initiation

During the first two days you will be immersed in the concept of Innovative Labor Organization. What lies behind this trendy umbrella term for 'all initiatives aimed at improving organizational performance by facilitating adequate and sustainable collaboration between people'? You will gain insight into the historical context of this concept as well as contemporary social trends. Both influence the current structure of companies / organizations. We will then move on to discuss the numerous reasons why the current structure needs innovative redesigning.

In the next 2-days session, we will explore ILO in more detail. Building blocks such as vision, structure, leadership, teams, and systems will be given a broader meaning and clearer coherence. Next, a simulation game will introduce you to the craftsmanship of (re)design. Starting from various practical examples, you will discover how to implement a design algorithm. In addition, you will discover the relationship between organizational configurations and workability, as a better organizational design leads to more engagement, less frustration and energy loss, and a better focus on strategic objectives. The theory will be illustrated by real life cases.

Part II: Deep Dive

During the deep dive, the various building blocks will gain even more relief and depth. You will set out with real life design and change cases. Starting from a concrete problem of a company / organization or network, you will simulate the complete case phase by phase.

Next, you will zoom in on 'the dark side' of ILO. You will make a critical reflection and consider resistance, gaps and potential unintended or unexpected side effects of redesign, while looking for practical solutions and remedies in a co-creative way.

The last day is dedicated to discussing the various cases the participants worked on during the deep dive module.

Individual trajectory project

You can supplement the Master Class with an individual trajectory. This will enable you to gain additional insights and to work independently on one or more aspects of Innovative Labor Organization.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this program:

  • you will be able to read the structure of an organization and identify any deficits;
  • you will be able to draw up an integral change plan in which attention is paid to both the structure construction and the change process;
  • you can support an organization in changing from functional to process-oriented;
  • you are able to draw up the ideal team structure tailored to an organization;
  • you can organize in a more goal-oriented and well-considered way and make logical choices with regard to structure, culture, people and systems.
