Problem

In recent years, the company bicycle, a bicycle for commutes and work journeys, is often proposed as an alternative for company cars.
Several organizations in the bicycle sector have set up initiatives to promote the use of company bicycles. In spite of their efforts, they find that interested companies often do not know what is on offer, how they can implement company bicycles in their organization, where they can turn for service, etc.
Meanwhile, a deafening silence remains on the suppliers’ side: the bicycle sector. Many sector members lack the level of organization needed to combine a good range of products with a good service and guidance at a larger scale.

Solution

By offering a digital platform, both parties can get in touch with each other. Together with the sector, Smart Mobility built BikeForm.be. A digital environment that allows the bicycle sector to gain new insights, helping them to better respond to the (increased) demand for company bicycles. At the same time, interested companies can use the site to find all the information they need to set up a well-considered bicycle policy.

Projectdevelopment

The focus of this project was the development of the digital platform BikeForm.be. On this platform a business community was created between suppliers and other service providers. Companies looking for information on company bicycles could use the site to acquire the necessary knowledge and take action.

Advantages

  • This project demonstrated that the bicycle sector can offer an improved range of innovative market products and services (e.g. a combination of different services) and develop new services and products.
  • The subsequent growing number of cycling employees has a direct impact on company performance. Experts agree that people who cycle regularly are usually significantly fitter than people who have less exercise. This results in less absence from work.
  • By taking the bicycle instead of a car, we contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions, less air pollution and less noise pollution. Because every cyclist means one less car sitting in traffic.

Result

The most important result of the project is the creation of an online user platform that helps the company bicycle sector provide a complete offer in quality, guarantees, services, etc. comparable to the car sector, as well as specific actions to increase awareness. This will increase the use of bicycles for commutes between home and the office.

After the project was finished, the platform was continued by Traxio.
